Most children do most of these by the end of the year. Being behind on a few is common and usually resolves. Nothing here is an assessment.

Reading

  • Reads and discusses texts above their own comfortable level
  • Identifies theme, not just plot
  • Judges whether a source is reliable
  • Reads for their own purposes without being told to

Maths

  • Operations with decimals to hundredths
  • Adds and subtracts fractions with unlike denominators
  • Volume, and the beginnings of the coordinate plane
  • Multi-step problems with more than one operation

Writing

  • Structures a multi-paragraph essay without a template
  • Says where a fact came from
  • Adjusts tone depending on who will read it
  • Plans, drafts and revises as separate steps

When it's worth asking someone. Missing homework and lost worksheets are worth treating as a skill to teach rather than a character flaw. Secondary school assumes these habits exist.
